CYCLOHEXASILOXANE

Description

Cyclohexasiloxane is a versatile silicone-based compound widely used in skincare and haircare formulations. This colorless, odorless liquid is characterized by its low viscosity and exceptional spreadability, making it an ideal ingredient for various cosmetic products. Chemically known as D6 siloxane, it belongs to the cyclic silicone family and features a ring structure of six silicone-oxygen pairs.

In skincare, cyclohexasiloxane functions primarily as an emollient and carrier, providing a silky, smooth texture to products while enhancing their ability to spread evenly across the skin. It creates a temporary, breathable barrier on the skin's surface, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and maintain hydration. In haircare, it acts as a conditioning agent, imparting shine and reducing frizz without weighing down the hair.

Cyclohexasiloxane is known for its quick-evaporating properties, leaving minimal residue on the skin or hair. This characteristic makes it particularly useful in formulations where a light, non-greasy feel is desired. However, its use has been subject to regulatory scrutiny in some regions due to environmental concerns, leading formulators to explore alternative ingredients in certain applications.
