COLOSTRUM
Description
Colostrum, a nutrient-rich fluid produced by mammals in the first few days after giving birth, has gained attention in the skincare industry for its potential benefits. This complex substance contains a high concentration of growth factors, immunoglobulins, and bioactive compounds that support cellular regeneration and immune function.
In skincare formulations, colostrum is primarily derived from bovine sources and is processed into a powder or extract form. Its key components include epidermal growth factor (EGF), insulin-like growth factors (IGF-1 and IGF-2), and transforming growth factor (TGF-β), which are known to promote cell proliferation and collagen synthesis. These factors contribute to improved skin elasticity, texture, and overall appearance.
Colostrum also contains lactoferrin, an iron-binding protein with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, potentially benefiting acne-prone skin. The presence of immunoglobulins, particularly IgG, may enhance the skin's natural defense mechanisms against environmental stressors.
When incorporated into skincare products, colostrum is typically used in concentrations ranging from 1% to 5%. It is compatible with various formulation types, including serums, creams, and masks, making it a versatile ingredient for addressing multiple skin concerns.
