COD LIVER OIL

Description

Cod liver oil is a nutrient-rich marine extract derived from the livers of cod fish, primarily Atlantic and Pacific cod species. This golden-hued oil has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and more recently in skincare formulations due to its potent blend of bioactive compounds. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), cod liver oil offers significant anti-inflammatory benefits for the skin. It also contains high levels of vitamins A and D, which are crucial for skin cell regeneration and maintaining skin barrier function.

The vitamin A content, in the form of retinol, promotes collagen production and cell turnover, potentially reducing the appearance of fine lines and improving skin texture. Vitamin D supports the skin's immune system and helps regulate sebum production. The oil's emollient properties make it effective for treating dry, flaky skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. When applied topically, cod liver oil can enhance skin hydration, reduce inflammation, and support wound healing. However, its strong fishy odor and potential for comedogenicity in acne-prone skin should be considered when incorporating it into skincare formulations.
