COCOYL HYDROXYETHYLIMIDAZOLINIUM PG-CHLORIDE PHOSPHATE
Description
Cocoyl Hydroxyethylimidazolinium PG-Chloride Phosphate is a multifunctional ingredient used in various personal care and cosmetic formulations. This quaternary ammonium compound serves primarily as a conditioning agent and antistatic in hair care products. Its molecular structure combines a fatty acid derivative (cocoyl) with an imidazolinium ring, phosphate group, and propylene glycol (PG) component.
The ingredient's cationic nature allows it to adsorb onto negatively charged hair and skin surfaces, providing a smooth feel and reducing static electricity. In shampoos and conditioners, it helps improve wet and dry combing, increases hair manageability, and enhances overall hair texture. Its mild cleansing properties make it suitable for use in gentle formulations.
Cocoyl Hydroxyethylimidazolinium PG-Chloride Phosphate also exhibits some preservative-boosting effects, potentially allowing for reduced concentrations of traditional preservatives in formulations. It is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is biodegradable. However, as with any quaternary compound, it may cause irritation in sensitive individuals if used in high concentrations. Formulators typically incorporate this ingredient at concentrations between 0.5% to 5%, depending on the product type and desired effects.
