COCAMIDOPROPYL PG-DIMONIUM CHLORIDE

Description

Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride is a multifunctional cosmetic ingredient widely used in hair care and skin care formulations. This quaternary ammonium compound acts as a conditioning agent, emulsifier, and antistatic agent. Its molecular structure consists of a long-chain fatty acid derived from coconut oil, combined with propylene glycol and a cationic group.

In hair care products, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride provides excellent detangling properties, improves combability, and reduces static electricity. It forms a protective film on the hair shaft, enhancing shine and manageability. For skin care applications, it acts as a mild surfactant and emollient, contributing to the smooth texture of creams and lotions.

This ingredient demonstrates good compatibility with anionic surfactants, making it suitable for use in cleansing formulations. It exhibits stability across a wide pH range and is effective in both leave-on and rinse-off products. Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride is typically used at concentrations between 0.1% to 5%, depending on the formulation type and desired effects. While generally considered safe for cosmetic use, individuals with sensitive skin should perform patch tests before regular application.
