Description

Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is an amphoteric surfactant widely used in personal care products and cosmetics. Derived from coconut oil and dimethylaminopropylamine, it functions as a mild cleansing agent, foam booster, and viscosity enhancer. CAPB exhibits excellent compatibility with both anionic and cationic ingredients, making it versatile in formulations.

This surfactant is valued for its gentle cleansing properties, making it suitable for sensitive skin and baby products. It helps reduce irritation caused by other, harsher surfactants and can improve the overall mildness of a formulation. CAPB also contributes to the creation of a rich, stable lather and aids in the even distribution of other ingredients throughout a product.

In skincare and haircare formulations, CAPB typically comprises 3-5% of the total composition. It has a pH range of 5-7, which aligns well with the skin's natural pH. While generally considered safe, a small percentage of individuals may experience allergic reactions, primarily due to impurities in the manufacturing process rather than the CAPB itself. Rigorous purification methods have significantly reduced these occurrences in recent years.
