CIS-2-PENTENOL

Description

CIS-2-PENTENOL, also known as Hydraporine, is a multifunctional ingredient utilized in advanced skincare formulations. This synthetic compound is structurally similar to naturally occurring lipids found in the skin's stratum corneum. Its primary function is to enhance the skin's barrier function and improve hydration levels.

The molecule's unique structure allows it to penetrate the upper layers of the epidermis, where it helps to reinforce the skin's protective barrier. This action reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and increases overall skin hydration. CIS-2-PENTENOL also exhibits mild occlusive properties, creating a protective film on the skin's surface that further prevents moisture loss.

In addition to its hydrating benefits, CIS-2-PENTENOL has been shown to improve the skin's texture and smoothness. It aids in the organization of intercellular lipids, promoting a more cohesive and resilient skin structure. This ingredient is particularly beneficial for dry, sensitive, or compromised skin types.

Typically used at concentrations between 0.5% to 3% in skincare formulations, CIS-2-PENTENOL is compatible with a wide range of other ingredients and can be incorporated into various product types, including moisturizers, serums, and barrier repair creams.
