CI 77499

Description

CI 77499, also known as Iron Oxide Black, is a synthetic pigment widely used in cosmetic and skincare formulations. This inorganic compound is produced by carefully controlled oxidation of iron, resulting in a fine, deep black powder. Its primary function is to impart color to various products, including foundations, eyeshadows, and sunscreens.

Iron Oxide Black is prized for its excellent stability and resistance to light, heat, and pH changes, ensuring long-lasting color in formulations. It is considered safe for use in cosmetics and is approved by regulatory bodies worldwide, including the FDA and EU Commission. CI 77499 offers superior coverage and opacity, making it ideal for creating dark shades and adjusting the intensity of other pigments.

In addition to its coloring properties, Iron Oxide Black provides some UV protection, albeit minimal compared to dedicated sunscreen agents. It is often used in combination with other iron oxides (red and yellow) to create a wide range of skin-tone matching shades in complexion products. CI 77499 is non-comedogenic and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Its inert nature means it rarely causes allergic reactions or irritation.
