CI 40825
Description
CI 40825, also known as Solvent Orange 7 or D&C Orange No. 4, is a synthetic azo dye widely used in cosmetics and personal care products. This vibrant orange colorant is oil-soluble and provides a warm, golden-orange hue to various formulations.
In skincare and cosmetic applications, CI 40825 is primarily utilized in lipsticks, blushes, and other color cosmetics. Its oil solubility makes it particularly suitable for anhydrous formulations and oil-based products. The dye offers excellent color stability and uniformity, ensuring consistent results across different product batches.
While CI 40825 is approved for use in cosmetics in many countries, including the European Union and the United States, it is subject to concentration restrictions. In the EU, it is permitted at concentrations up to 5% in rinse-off products and up to 1% in leave-on products. It's important to note that this colorant is not approved for use in products applied near the eyes or on mucous membranes.
Formulators should be aware of potential allergic reactions in sensitive individuals and consider alternative colorants for products intended for prolonged skin contact. When used within regulatory limits, CI 40825 provides effective and stable coloration for a range of cosmetic formulations.
