CI 15630

Description

CI 15630, also known as Acid Orange 7 or Orange II, is a synthetic azo dye commonly used in cosmetic and personal care products. This water-soluble colorant imparts a vibrant orange hue to various formulations, including soaps, shampoos, and skincare products. Its molecular structure allows for excellent stability in a wide range of pH levels, making it versatile for different product types.

While CI 15630 is approved for use in cosmetics in many countries, including the European Union, it is not FDA-approved for use in products applied to the lips or eye area in the United States. This limitation is due to potential concerns about long-term exposure and sensitivity in these delicate areas.

The colorant's safety profile has been extensively studied, with most research indicating low risk for topical use in rinse-off products. However, some individuals may experience skin irritation or allergic reactions, particularly those with sensitive skin or a history of dye sensitivities. As with any cosmetic ingredient, patch testing is recommended before widespread use.

In formulations, CI 15630 is typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.001% to 0.1%, depending on the desired color intensity and product type.
