CI 15525

Description

CI 15525, also known as Orange 4 or Sunset Yellow FCF, is a synthetic azo dye widely used in cosmetics and personal care products. This water-soluble colorant imparts a vibrant orange-yellow hue to various formulations, including skincare products, makeup, and hair dyes. CI 15525 is approved by the FDA for use in cosmetics and is considered safe when used as directed.

The molecular structure of CI 15525 consists of a disodium salt of 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonic acid. This composition allows for excellent color stability and uniformity in diverse product types. The dye exhibits good light fastness and pH stability, making it suitable for a wide range of formulations.

While CI 15525 is generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience sensitization or allergic reactions, particularly those with known sensitivities to azo dyes. It's important to note that this colorant is not recommended for use in products applied near the eyes.

In skincare formulations, CI 15525 is typically used in low concentrations to achieve the desired color effect without compromising the product's overall performance or safety profile. Formulators should adhere to regulatory guidelines and conduct appropriate safety assessments when incorporating this ingredient into cosmetic products.
