Description

CI 12010, also known as Solvent Red 3 or Sudan III, is a synthetic azo dye widely used in cosmetic and personal care products. This oil-soluble colorant imparts a vibrant red-orange hue to various formulations, including lipsticks, blushes, and other makeup products. Its molecular structure allows for excellent color stability and resistance to fading, making it a preferred choice in long-wearing cosmetic applications.

While CI 12010 is approved for use in cosmetics in many countries, including the European Union, it is important to note that it is not FDA-approved for use in products intended for the lip area in the United States. This ingredient is typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 2% in cosmetic formulations, depending on the desired color intensity and product type.

As with many synthetic dyes, some individuals may experience skin sensitivity or allergic reactions to CI 12010. Formulators should consider patch testing and thorough safety assessments when incorporating this ingredient into their products. Additionally, due to its synthetic nature, CI 12010 is not suitable for use in natural or organic certified cosmetics.
