CETETH-40
Description
Ceteth-40 is a versatile synthetic emulsifier and surfactant commonly used in various cosmetic and personal care formulations. This ethoxylated cetyl alcohol derivative is characterized by its ability to reduce surface tension between oil and water phases, making it an excellent stabilizer for emulsions and cleansing products.
With a Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) value of approximately 16, Ceteth-40 excels at creating oil-in-water emulsions and enhancing the solubility of other ingredients. Its molecular structure consists of a hydrophobic cetyl alcohol chain bonded to a hydrophilic polyethylene glycol chain with 40 ethylene oxide units.
In skincare formulations, Ceteth-40 functions as an emollient and thickening agent, contributing to improved texture and spreadability of products. It also aids in the even distribution of active ingredients throughout the formulation. This ingredient is particularly useful in creating stable foam in cleansing products and can enhance the sensory properties of lotions and creams.
While generally well-tolerated, Ceteth-40 may cause mild irritation in individuals with sensitive skin. It is non-comedogenic and suitable for use in a wide range of cosmetic applications, including face creams, body lotions, and hair care products.
