Description

Ceteth-23 is a polyethylene glycol ether of cetyl alcohol, functioning as a nonionic surfactant and emulsifier in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This synthetic ingredient is derived from cetyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, resulting in a compound with both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties. Ceteth-23 has an HLB (Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance) value of approximately 16.9, making it particularly effective at stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions.

In skincare products, Ceteth-23 serves multiple purposes. It acts as an emollient, helping to soften and smooth the skin's surface. Its emulsifying properties enable the stable mixing of oil and water-based ingredients, ensuring product consistency and preventing separation. Additionally, Ceteth-23 functions as a solubilizer, aiding in the incorporation of fragrances and other oil-soluble ingredients into water-based formulations.
