CETEARETH-80
Description
Ceteareth-80 is a potent emulsifying and solubilizing agent widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations. This synthetic ingredient is derived from the ethoxylation of cetearyl alcohol, a fatty alcohol blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. With an exceptionally high hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) value of approximately 15.2, Ceteareth-80 excels at creating stable oil-in-water emulsions and enhancing the solubility of various ingredients.
In skincare products, Ceteareth-80 functions as an effective surfactant, helping to blend oil and water-based components seamlessly. Its high molecular weight and extensive ethoxylation contribute to its ability to form consistent, long-lasting emulsions. This property is particularly valuable in formulating creams, lotions, and other leave-on products that require a smooth, uniform texture.
Ceteareth-80 also acts as a mild cleansing agent and can improve the spreadability of formulations on the skin. Its solubilizing capabilities make it useful for incorporating oil-soluble active ingredients into water-based systems. While generally considered safe for topical use, formulators should be aware of potential skin irritation in sensitive individuals and adhere to recommended concentration limits in finished products.
