CETEARETH-8

Description

Ceteareth-8 is a versatile emulsifier and surfactant commonly used in skincare and haircare formulations. This synthetic ingredient is derived from cetearyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, resulting in a nonionic compound that effectively bridges the gap between oil and water-based components in cosmetic products.

As an emulsifier, Ceteareth-8 helps create stable emulsions by reducing surface tension between immiscible liquids, allowing for the seamless blending of oils and water. This property makes it particularly useful in lotions, creams, and hair conditioners. Its surfactant properties also contribute to the cleansing and foam-boosting capabilities of various personal care products.

Ceteareth-8 exhibits a moderate hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) value, typically ranging from 9 to 11, which makes it suitable for oil-in-water emulsions. This characteristic enables formulators to create products with improved spreadability and a less greasy feel on the skin or hair.

While generally considered safe for cosmetic use, some individuals with sensitive skin may experience mild irritation. As with any cosmetic ingredient, patch testing is recommended before widespread application.
