CETEARETH-7

Description

Ceteareth-7 is a versatile emulsifying agent and surfactant widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. This synthetic ingredient is derived from the ethoxylation of cetearyl alcohol, a fatty alcohol blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. Ceteareth-7 has an HLB (Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance) value of approximately 9.0, making it effective in creating stable oil-in-water emulsions.

In skincare products, Ceteareth-7 functions as an emulsifier, helping to blend oil and water-based ingredients seamlessly. It also acts as a mild surfactant, contributing to cleansing properties in various formulations. This ingredient enhances the texture and spreadability of creams and lotions, promoting a smooth, non-greasy feel on the skin.

Ceteareth-7 is known for its ability to improve the penetration of other active ingredients into the skin, potentially enhancing their efficacy. It is generally well-tolerated by most skin types and is often used in formulations for sensitive skin. However, as with any ethoxylated ingredient, there is a small risk of contamination with 1,4-dioxane, a potential carcinogen, during the manufacturing process. Reputable manufacturers employ purification techniques to minimize this risk.
