CETEARETH-50

Description

Ceteareth-50 is a versatile, nonionic surfactant and emulsifier widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations. This synthetic ingredient is derived from the ethoxylation of cetearyl alcohol, a fatty alcohol blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. With an average of 50 ethylene oxide units, Ceteareth-50 exhibits excellent water solubility and emulsification properties.

In skincare products, Ceteareth-50 functions as an emollient and emulsifier, helping to create stable oil-in-water emulsions. It aids in the even distribution of active ingredients throughout formulations and enhances the texture and spreadability of creams and lotions. This ingredient also acts as a mild cleansing agent and can improve the foaming properties of cleansers.

Ceteareth-50 is known for its ability to enhance the penetration of other ingredients into the skin, potentially improving the efficacy of active compounds. It has a low irritation potential, making it suitable for use in products designed for sensitive skin. However, as with all ethoxylated ingredients, there are concerns about potential contamination with 1,4-dioxane, a byproduct of the ethoxylation process. Manufacturers typically employ vacuum stripping to minimize this risk.
