CERESIN
Description
Ceresin is a refined mineral wax derived from ozokerite, a naturally occurring fossil wax. This white to pale yellow, odorless substance is characterized by its high melting point and excellent stability. In skincare formulations, ceresin serves multiple functions, primarily as an emollient, thickening agent, and stabilizer.
The molecular structure of ceresin consists of long-chain hydrocarbons, which contribute to its water-repellent properties and ability to form protective barriers on the skin. This characteristic makes it valuable in products designed to prevent moisture loss and shield the skin from environmental stressors.
Ceresin's compatibility with various cosmetic ingredients allows for versatile applications in skincare products, including lip balms, creams, lotions, and ointments. Its non-comedogenic nature makes it suitable for use in formulations intended for acne-prone or sensitive skin.
While ceresin provides texture and stability to products, it does not offer significant active skincare benefits. Its primary role is to enhance the sensory experience and improve the overall performance of formulations. Ceresin is generally considered safe for topical use, with minimal risk of skin irritation or allergic reactions.
