Description

Cerebrosides are a class of glycosphingolipids found naturally in the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin. These complex lipids play a crucial role in maintaining the skin's barrier function and regulating moisture retention. Composed of a sphingosine base linked to a fatty acid and a sugar molecule, typically glucose or galactose, cerebrosides contribute to the structural integrity of cell membranes.

In skincare formulations, cerebrosides are primarily derived from plant sources, such as wheat, rice, or corn. They are valued for their ability to enhance skin hydration, improve barrier function, and promote overall skin health.
