CARBOMER

Description

Carbomer is a synthetic polymer widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations as a thickening agent, emulsifier, and stabilizer. This high-molecular-weight compound is composed of acrylic acid monomers cross-linked with allyl sucrose or allyl pentaerythritol. Its primary function is to enhance the viscosity and texture of products, creating smooth, gel-like consistencies.

In skincare, carbomer plays a crucial role in maintaining product stability and improving the distribution of active ingredients. It forms a three-dimensional network in aqueous solutions, effectively suspending particles and preventing separation of formulation components. This property is particularly valuable in sunscreens, where it helps ensure even dispersion of UV filters.
