CANOLA OIL
Description
Canola oil is a versatile vegetable oil derived from the seeds of the canola plant, a cultivar of rapeseed. This lightweight, non-comedogenic oil is rich in oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid that comprises about 60% of its total fatty acid content. Canola oil also contains significant amounts of linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, both essential fatty acids that support skin barrier function.
The high concentration of vitamin E in canola oil provides antioxidant properties, helping to protect the skin from free radical damage and environmental stressors. Its emollient properties make it an effective moisturizer, capable of reducing transepidermal water loss and improving skin hydration. Canola oil's low molecular weight allows for easy absorption into the skin without leaving a greasy residue.
In skincare formulations, canola oil serves as an excellent carrier oil and can be used in various products, including cleansers, moisturizers, and massage oils. Its mild nature makes it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Canola oil's ability to enhance the penetration of other active ingredients makes it a valuable component in many skincare formulations, improving overall product efficacy.
