C12-13 ALCOHOLS

Description

C12-13 Alcohols are a mixture of fatty alcohols derived primarily from coconut and palm kernel oils, consisting predominantly of dodecanol (C12) and tridecanol (C13). These long-chain alcohols play a crucial role in skincare and cosmetic formulations due to their multifaceted properties. As emollients, they help soften and smooth the skin, improving its texture and appearance. C12-13 Alcohols also function as emulsifiers, facilitating the stable mixing of oil and water-based ingredients in products.

These alcohols exhibit excellent thickening capabilities, contributing to the desired viscosity and consistency of creams, lotions, and other skincare formulations. They enhance the spreadability of products, ensuring even application across the skin's surface. C12-13 Alcohols are generally well-tolerated by most skin types and are considered non-irritating and non-sensitizing.

In addition to their cosmetic benefits, these alcohols serve as mild surfactants, aiding in the gentle cleansing of the skin without excessive drying. They also possess some occlusive properties, helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and maintain skin hydration. C12-13 Alcohols are biodegradable and often preferred in formulations aiming for more natural or environmentally conscious ingredients.
