Common Name(s): Butyl hydroxycyclohexane carboxylate,butyl hydroxycyclohexane carboxylate,cooling agent,non-menthol trpm8 activator
CAS Number: N/a
DESCRIPTION
What It Does: Provides trpm8-mediated cooling sensation without menthol's peppermint fragrance โ the hydroxycyclohexane carboxylate geometry activating cold receptor trpm8 for the cooling perception used in deodorants, after-sun, and cooling skin products.
Why It's Used: Cyclohexane carboxylate cooling agents provide cooling function separated from menthol's overpowering peppermint scent โ enabling cooling product positioning in fragrance-sensitive applications and combination with non-peppermint fragrances.
How It Works: Hydroxycyclohexane carboxylate binds trpm8 at the hydrophobic pocket formed by s1-s4 transmembrane domains โ the hydroxyl group h-bonds with tyr745 while the cyclohexane occupies the lipophilic binding groove. the ester provides improved hydrolytic stability versus menthol ether analogues.

SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Trpm8 cooling potency varies with cyclohexyl substitution: equatorial hydroxyl provides higher receptor affinity than axial; carboxylate ester improves formulation stability. cooling potency compared to menthol: typically ec50 ~50-100 ฮผm vs menthol ec50 ~10 ฮผm.
