Description

Butene, also known as butylene, is a versatile hydrocarbon compound utilized in various skincare and haircare formulations. This colorless, flammable gas belongs to the alkene family and exists in four isomeric forms: 1-butene, cis-2-butene, trans-2-butene, and isobutylene. In cosmetic applications, butene derivatives are primarily employed as emollients, conditioning agents, and propellants.

In skincare, butene-derived ingredients function as effective occlusive agents, forming a protective barrier on the skin's surface to prevent moisture loss. They contribute to improved skin texture and softness, making them valuable in moisturizers and lip balms. Additionally, certain butene polymers exhibit film-forming properties, enhancing the longevity and performance of makeup products.

In haircare formulations, butene-based compounds serve as conditioning agents, helping to reduce frizz, improve manageability, and impart shine to the hair shaft. They are particularly useful in leave-in conditioners and styling products.
