BETA-SANTALOL

Description

Beta-santalol is a key component of sandalwood essential oil, prized for its woody, sweet aroma and potential skincare benefits. This sesquiterpene alcohol is derived primarily from the Santalum album tree, native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia. In skincare formulations, beta-santalol exhibits notable anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it valuable for addressing various skin concerns.

Research suggests that beta-santalol may help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases, enzymes responsible for breaking down collagen. Its antioxidant activity can protect skin cells from free radical damage, potentially slowing the signs of aging. Beta-santalol also demonstrates effectiveness in regulating sebum production, making it beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin types.

When incorporated into skincare products, beta-santalol is typically used at concentrations between 0.1% and 1%. It is often found in serums, moisturizers, and facial oils targeting anti-aging, calming, and balancing effects. Due to its potent nature, patch testing is recommended before widespread use, particularly for those with sensitive skin.
