BENZOPHENONE-11

Description

Benzophenone-11, also known as 2-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone-5-sulfonic acid, is a water-soluble organic compound widely used in skincare and sunscreen formulations. This synthetic UV filter provides broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays, helping to prevent skin damage, premature aging, and reduce the risk of skin cancer.

The molecule's structure allows it to absorb harmful UV radiation and convert it into harmless heat energy, effectively shielding the skin from sun damage. Benzophenone-11 is particularly valued for its stability in aqueous solutions and its ability to enhance the photostability of other UV filters in formulations.

In skincare products, Benzophenone-11 is typically used at concentrations between 0.5% to 5%, depending on the desired level of sun protection. Its water-soluble nature makes it ideal for lightweight, non-greasy formulations such as daily moisturizers, facial serums, and spray-on sunscreens. Additionally, this ingredient exhibits good compatibility with other cosmetic ingredients, allowing for versatile formulation options.

While generally considered safe for use in cosmetics, some individuals may experience skin sensitization or allergic reactions to benzophenone compounds.
