Description

Behenic acid is a long-chain saturated fatty acid naturally occurring in various plant-based oils, including ben oil from the moringa tree, peanut oil, and canola oil. This 22-carbon fatty acid, also known as docosanoic acid, plays a significant role in skincare and cosmetic formulations due to its unique properties.

In skincare products, behenic acid functions primarily as an emollient and thickening agent. It helps create a smooth, spreadable texture in creams and lotions while providing a protective barrier on the skin's surface. This barrier effect helps reduce transepidermal water loss, promoting hydration and improving skin elasticity.
