BEHENIC ACID

Description

Behenic acid is a long-chain saturated fatty acid naturally occurring in various plant-based oils, including ben oil from the moringa tree. This C22 fatty acid plays a significant role in skincare formulations due to its emollient and structuring properties. Behenic acid exhibits a high melting point, contributing to the stability and texture of cosmetic products.

In skincare, behenic acid functions primarily as an emollient and thickening agent. It helps create a protective barrier on the skin's surface, reducing transepidermal water loss and improving skin hydration. This ingredient is particularly beneficial in formulations designed for dry or sensitive skin types.

Behenic acid is often used in lip products, moisturizers, and hair care formulations. It enhances the spreadability of products and provides a smooth, non-greasy feel. Additionally, behenic acid can act as a co-emulsifier, aiding in the stability of oil-in-water emulsions.
