Description

Basic Violet 16, also known as Ethyl Violet, is a synthetic cationic dye commonly used in haircare formulations. This vibrant purple colorant imparts a cool, violet hue to hair products, making it particularly effective in toning and neutralizing unwanted yellow or brassy tones in blonde or gray hair.

The chemical structure of Basic Violet 16 allows it to adhere to the hair shaft, providing temporary color that gradually washes out over time. Its cationic nature enables it to bind effectively to negatively charged hair proteins, enhancing color deposition and longevity.

In hair care products, Basic Violet 16 is frequently incorporated into shampoos, conditioners, and leave-in treatments designed for blonde, platinum, or silver hair. Its concentration in formulations is typically low, ranging from 0.001% to 0.1%, to achieve the desired toning effect without over-pigmenting the hair.
