ANHYDROXYLITOL

Description

Anhydroxylitol is a novel sugar-derived ingredient gaining prominence in the skincare industry for its potent moisturizing and hydrating properties. This compound, structurally similar to xylitol, is a small molecule capable of penetrating the skin's outer layers effectively. Its hygroscopic nature allows it to attract and retain moisture, enhancing skin hydration and improving barrier function.

In formulations, anhydroxylitol acts as a humectant, drawing water from the environment to the skin. It has been shown to increase the production of hyaluronic acid and ceramides in the skin, further boosting its moisturizing efficacy. Clinical studies have demonstrated its ability to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and improve skin elasticity.

Anhydroxylitol also exhibits antioxidant properties, helping to protect skin cells from oxidative stress. It has been found to enhance the skin's natural defense mechanisms against environmental aggressors. Additionally, this ingredient shows promise in supporting the skin's microbiome, promoting a balanced and healthy skin ecosystem.

Typically used in concentrations between 1-5% in skincare products, anhydroxylitol is compatible with most other ingredients and suitable for various skin types, including sensitive skin.
