ACID RED 18

Description

Acid Red 18, also known as Ponceau 4R, is a synthetic azo dye commonly used in cosmetic and personal care products, particularly in hair coloring formulations. This water-soluble compound imparts a vibrant red hue to various hair dye products, including temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent hair colors. Its molecular structure allows for effective binding to hair proteins, resulting in long-lasting color retention.

In hair care applications, Acid Red 18 demonstrates excellent color stability and resistance to fading, even under exposure to UV light and frequent washing. Its ability to penetrate the hair shaft contributes to uniform color distribution and enhanced coverage of grey hair. This dye is often combined with other colorants to create a wide range of red and auburn shades.

While Acid Red 18 is approved for use in hair dyes by regulatory bodies in many countries, it is important to note that some individuals may experience allergic reactions or skin sensitivity. As with all hair dye ingredients, patch testing is recommended before use. Additionally, this dye is not typically used in leave-on skincare products due to potential staining effects on the skin.
