Common Name(s): 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate,acrylate copolymer,film-former polymer

CAS Number: N/a

DESCRIPTION

What It Does: Provides film formation for styling hold, long-wear colour, or emulsion stabilisation with properties determined by the copolymer monomer composition and molecular weight architecture.

Why It's Used: Monomer ratio engineering: hard monomers provide film hardness and styling hold; soft monomers provide flexibility and conditioning; functional monomers (acid, amine, hydroxyl) provide adhesion, charge, or crosslinking capacity.

How It Works: Copolymer tg controlled by fox equation: sum of weight fractions divided by individual component tg values. hard monomers (mma tg 105c, styrene tg 100c) raise overall tg; soft monomers (n-ba tg -54c, 2-eha tg -70c) lower tg. film forms above tg on drying.
