Loquat Extract

Description

Loquat extract, derived from the leaves of the Eriobotrya japonica tree, is an emerging ingredient in skincare formulations. This botanical extract contains a rich array of bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and triterpenes, which contribute to its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Clinical studies have shown that loquat extract can effectively neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress in the skin, potentially slowing down the aging process and protecting against environmental damage.

One of the key components of loquat extract is ursolic acid, a pentacyclic triterpenoid known for its ability to enhance collagen production and improve skin elasticity. This compound may also help regulate sebum production, making it beneficial for both aging and acne-prone skin. Additionally, loquat extract contains corosolic acid, which has demonstrated potential in improving skin barrier function and reducing transepidermal water loss.

Research indicates that loquat extract may have skin-lightening properties due to its ability to inhibit tyrosinase activity, potentially addressing hyperpigmentation concerns. Its anti-inflammatory effects can also help soothe irritated skin and reduce redness. When incorporated into skincare products, loquat extract is typically used at concentrations between 0.1% and 1%.
