LAUROYL PG-TRIMONIUM CHLORIDE
Description
Lauroyl PG-Trimonium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound widely used in personal care and cosmetic formulations. This multifunctional ingredient serves primarily as a conditioning agent, antistatic agent, and emulsifier. Its molecular structure consists of a long-chain fatty acid (lauric acid) attached to a positively charged nitrogen atom, providing both hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties.
In hair care products, Lauroyl PG-Trimonium Chloride helps reduce static electricity, improve combability, and enhance softness. It forms a thin, protective film on the hair shaft, which aids in detangling and reduces friction between strands. In skincare formulations, it acts as an emollient and helps stabilize emulsions.
The ingredient demonstrates good compatibility with various surfactants and is effective at low concentrations, typically ranging from 0.1% to 2%. Its cationic nature allows it to adhere well to negatively charged surfaces like hair and skin. While generally considered safe for cosmetic use, some individuals may experience mild irritation. As with any quaternary ammonium compound, it should be used cautiously in leave-on products to avoid potential build-up or scalp irritation with prolonged use.
