Description

Lauric acid is a medium-chain saturated fatty acid naturally found in coconut oil, palm kernel oil, and human breast milk. This versatile compound plays a significant role in skincare and cosmetic formulations due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties. With a molecular formula of C12H24O2, lauric acid exists as a white, crystalline solid at room temperature.

In skincare products, lauric acid functions as an emollient, helping to soften and smooth the skin's surface. Its ability to penetrate the skin barrier allows it to effectively deliver moisture and nourishment to deeper layers of the epidermis. The antimicrobial properties of lauric acid make it particularly useful in acne-fighting formulations, as it can help combat the growth of Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria associated with acne development.
