Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate

Description

Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate (HSH) is a multifunctional ingredient widely used in skincare and cosmetic formulations. Derived from corn, wheat, or potato starch through hydrolysis and hydrogenation processes, HSH is a clear, odorless, and viscous liquid. This versatile compound serves as a humectant, drawing moisture from the environment to hydrate the skin, and acts as an emollient, improving skin texture and softness.

HSH's molecular structure allows it to form a protective film on the skin's surface, reducing transepidermal water loss and enhancing the skin barrier function. It exhibits excellent stability across a wide pH range and is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients. Unlike some synthetic humectants, HSH has a lower molecular weight, enabling better penetration into the skin for improved hydration.

In skincare formulations, HSH is typically used at concentrations between 1% and 10%, depending on the desired effect and product type. It is particularly beneficial in products targeting dry or sensitive skin, as it provides hydration without causing irritation. HSH also functions as a thickening agent and helps stabilize emulsions, contributing to improved product texture and shelf life.
