Dimethyl Ether (DME) is a colorless, highly volatile organic compound with the chemical formula CH3OCH3. In skincare formulations, DME serves primarily as a propellant in aerosol products, enabling efficient and controlled dispensing of active ingredients. Its low boiling point of -24.8°C allows for rapid evaporation upon contact with skin, leaving minimal residue.

DME's properties make it particularly useful in spray-on sunscreens, dry shampoos, and other products requiring fine mist application. It offers advantages over traditional propellants like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) due to its lower environmental impact and ozone-friendly nature.
